The before years

I'd rather not have to do this, especially since this will likely become my only post in the month of April, but I feel this information will fall through the cracks and be ignored by the gaming world as a whole. The official market leader for gaming websites, Gamasutra, has posted an interesting interview with Takashi Tokita, the director of the original incarnation of Final Fantasy IV, as well as the recent The After Years sequel. In it he sheds a little insight into the development of the original title back during the SNES days, a rare tidbit considering how secretive the Japanese gaming industry is as a whole. In response to a question about the motivators behind the fourth installment, Tokita sets us up the following bomb:

"...The previous Final Fantasy titles were not million-sellers yet, and so we really wanted to jump over that hurdle this time."

I'm just going to leave that here.
